My name is Stephanie Mahoe (Ma-hoy) and I am an IFBB Bikini Pro and worldwide fitness coach.

Using my experience as a top ranked IFBB Bikini pro for the past 10 years, I have helped hundreds of women worldwide get fit, healthy, and happy using flexible & sustainable methods. More importantly, I have helped women find levels of self-love and confidence that they never thought possible. I take an inside-out approach to every transformation. All my girls know, I focus on getting the mind right, so the body follows.
When I started my coaching business 5 years ago I knew I wanted to help women learn sustainable methods to get results & keep them. This is why I don’t believe in going to extremes with cardio or diet, but instead finding healthy ways to keep them eating the foods they like (in moderation) and training in a way that fits THEIR individual schedule.

My Glute Growing Journey

I used to have a "pancake butt."
I always had an athletic build because I grew up playing many sports, primarily soccer. However, my hamstrings were always much more developed and shapelier than my glutes. It has taken a lot of time, patience and dedication both in the gym and with my diet, to transform my backside.
I have been building and sculpting my glutes for about 10 years. It has taken much experimentation with different styles of training to determining that focused glute activation exercises and lots of band movements have been the pillar of my glute growing success. In the process I have had the honor of stepping on the Olympia stage twice amongst ladies with the best glutes in the world. I placed in the Top 10 both times, and since then have continued my question to build the best butt I can.
Yes - I have seen more growth in my glute size and improved shape (roundness/lift) by doing LIGHTER weight. I am frequently asked how that is possible. "Steph, I thought I was supposed to lift heavy and do low reps to build muscle?"
That theory would make sense IF and ONLY IF the glutes are actually ACTIVATING when using heavy weights.
Over the years what I have learned is that the heavier I lifted, the more my strong muscles (hamstrings/quads) would take over. This was because I wasn't activating my glutes during the exercises. Some of this was do to my personal biomechanics, but a lot was do to improperly "warming up" the glute muscle with activation exercises.
A MUSCLE THAT ISN'T ACTIVATED ISN'T GOING TO GROW!!
See, our bodies are really really smart. They will always find the easiest way to perform a task - such as lifting heavy things up and putting them down. To do this the stronger muscles will work harder because the smaller, or possibly weaker muscles, can't handle the heavier weight. For me, my hamstrings were the first ones to arrive at the party, while my weaker glute muscles at the time, would show up to some extent, but they would be too late and most of the work was already done. This meant I ended up training the WRONG muscle. I didn't want bigger hamstrings, I wanted bigger glutes!
I think on of the biggest training mistakes I made over the years was thinking that HEAVY always meant better when it came to booty building. By reducing the weight and focusing on the contraction, I allowed my glutes the opportunity to show up first, or at least at the same time as my other muscles. They were finally doing the work and not just tagging along with my overpowering hamstrings.
I gave my booty a chance to work and get stronger. Once they got stronger I could increase the weight, but a strong foundation has to be laid first.
That foundation is called the mind-muscle connection, and I am a firm believer in it. It is what this workout and all of my programs are centered around. Without it, you are more than likely spinning your wheels and not maximizing your workouts.
Bands have been THE secret weapon for building my booty. All three of my glute muscles finally activate!! As soon as I got them to activate, every rep I did became more effective, and every glute muscle became stronger and larger. The better the activation is, the better the contraction will be, and thus the better the results. Results mean a BETTER BOOTY!!
